A Documentary About Olherd Bochkovskyi Presented in Kyiv
The documentary film “Olherd Bochkovskyi. The spark of the burning fire of national consciousness is unquenchable” was presented in Kyiv.
As Iryna Batyreva, First Deputy General Director of the Holodomor Memorial National Museum, noted, the tape was not chosen by chance. After all, it tells about an outstanding sociologist, political scientist and active figure of the Ukrainian diaspora. In addition, it has an educational character for the younger generation.
Representatives of the creative team that worked on the film – scriptwriter and director Hryhoriy Rudenko and lead actor Artem Bilbek, while presenting the documentary, drew the audience’s attention to the allusions contained in the film about Olherd Bochkovskyi. Europe, according to the creators of the film, was silent then, and now we must realize our responsibility for the future of Ukraine and honor our past, not forgetting the figures who saw the meaning of life in defending the interests of our country.
Artem Vilbik, an actor who played the role of Bochkovsky, noted: “How many years have we had our independence – and only now has such an active movement begun, which is raising the consciousness of Ukrainians. It helps to identify oneself as a nation, as a people. The figure of Bochkovsky is an example of how a person who identifies himself as a Ukrainian should behave.”

The general information partner is “Espreso”, the presenter of the documentary is Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

Screening of the film about Olherd Bochkovskyi at the Museum “Memorial to the Victims of the Holodomor”
On March 13, at 1:00 p.m., the National Museum “Memorial to the Victims of the Holodomor” will host a screening of the documentary film “Olherd Bochkovskyi. The spark of the burning fire of national consciousness is unquenchable.”
The screening will be attended by members of the creative team – screenwriter and director Hryhoriy Rudenko and actor Artem Vilbik, who played Olherd Bochkovskyi.
We are rediscovering the forgotten names of prominent Ukrainians! Olgerd Ippolit Bochkovskyi (1884-1939) was a Ukrainian sociologist, ethnologist, political scientist and diplomat. Despite his unusual name, he was born in Ukraine, although he fully realized his Ukrainian identity only in exile in Prague. As a scientist, he created a theory of the emergence and development of nations that was several decades ahead of classical studies of nation-building; as an activist – during the Holodomor in 1933, he headed the Committee for Aid to the Starving in Ukraine (Prague). He was one of the few “men of truth” in the West who openly wrote about the catastrophic situation of Ukrainians in 1932-33 and called on Europe to intervene.

The premiere of the documentary film about Olherd Bochkovskyi
The documentary “Olherd Bochkovskyi. The spark of the burning fire of national consciousness is unquenchable” will premiere on Sunday, February 17.
Olherd Bochkovskyi is a Ukrainian sociologist, political scientist, ethnologist, teacher, publicist and public figure.
In Europe, he is considered one of the leading European specialists in the theory of the nation and national relations of the first half of the 20th century, while in Ukraine his figure and scientific achievements are little known.
The contribution of Olgerd Ippolit Bochkovsky to the study of the processes of the birth and development of modern nations, the analysis of nation-building processes in Europe, Asia, Africa, both Americas and even in Australia are generally recognized specialists. Bochkovsky is the story of one of the many representatives of Ukrainian elites – known in scientific circles of the world, but “erased” from the memory of their people.
He was an “advocate” of the Ukrainian issue in the world, opposed Soviet propaganda. During the Holodomor of 1932-1933, he headed the Committee for Aid to the Starving in Ukraine. Bochkovsky was one of the ideologists of the “pan-European movement”, which created the ideological basis for the emergence of the European Union. Bochkovsky was convinced that the unification of Europe would be incomplete without the participation of Ukraine – and a hundred years ago, in fact, he predicted the movement of modern Ukraine to the EU.
“Olherd Bochkovskyi. An inextinguishable spark of the burning fire of national consciousness” – the first documentary film about an outstanding Ukrainian. Taking into account the current socio-political events in the country, as well as the armed aggression and hybrid war against Ukraine, it is extremely important for national self-determination to acquaint our citizens with such figures as O. Bochkovsky and their contribution to the formation of the Ukrainian state.
The film actualizes the Ukrainian issue and promotes the consolidation of Ukrainians in the struggle for their own independent state and the right to govern it independently without extraneous influences from other countries.
The tape “Olherd Bochkovskyi. An inextinguishable spark of the burning fire of national consciousness” was created by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” with the financial support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

Presentation of the film about the outstanding sociologist Olherd Bochkovskyi
The film “Olherd Bochkovskyi. The spark of the burning fire of national consciousness is unquenchable” was presented.
Documentary film “Olherd Bochkovskyi. An inextinguishable spark of the burning fire of national consciousness” is the first large-scale project – a story about an outstanding sociologist, political scientist and active figure of the Ukrainian diaspora in Europe in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. Bochkovsky was an “advocate” of the Ukrainian issue in the world, opposed Soviet propaganda. In 1932-33, he headed the Committee for Aid to the Starving in Ukraine.
“We reveal the name of one of the brightest intellectuals of Ukrainian public opinion of post-war times. Ukrainians, scattered around the world between the first and second world wars, fought for Ukraine’s independence even then. And thanks to their efforts, the world learned about the problems of Ukrainians, in particular, about the Holodomor. It is very important to reveal these names to our youth, to show such films in schools and universities.”
– noted at the presentation Mykola Kniazhytskyi, author of the idea for the tape, head of the parliamentary committee on culture and spirituality.
The creative team of the film plans to shoot a series of similar projects to popularize the activities of iconic figures of Ukrainian intellectuals of the 20th century, unknown to the general public.
The tape “Olherd Bochkovskyi. An inextinguishable spark of the burning fire of national consciousness” was created by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” with the financial support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. The TV premiere will take place on the TV channel Espreso.TV February 17 at 10:00 a.m. with a repeat at 10:00 p.m.

The director and actors brought “Legend of the Carpathians” to Ukrainian Film Days in Verkhovyna
The film “Legend of the Carpathians” was shown in 150 cinemas in Ukraine, in the USA, Canada and Great Britain.
“This film was shot in the Carpathians. We received extraordinary support and sincere help here. Therefore, we can say that the film was shot thanks to those people who live here and preserve these unique traditions,” said the director of the film, Serhii Skobun.
He also noted that the film “Legend of the Carpathians” was shown in 150 cinemas in Ukraine. In addition, it was shown to the Ukrainian diaspora in the USA, Canada, Great Britain and other countries.
The initiator of “Days of Ukrainian Cinema” in Verkhovyna, the head of the Committee on Culture and Spirituality of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, awarded the director of this film Serhiy Skobun, actors and other members of the film crew with thanks for their significant contribution to the development of culture and art.
We will remind you that the film “Legend of the Carpathians” tells the story of the legendary leader of the liberation movement of the Carpathian rebels of the 18th century. Oleksiy Dovbush, who had to survive a difficult childhood and grow up from an insecure boy into a real warrior, whose image is still the embodiment of courage and justice today. The film was shot in the highlands of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Ukrainian singer Maria Yaremchuk, rock musician Valery Kharchyshyn, Mykhailo Hrytsak and Bohdan Lastivka starred in the main roles.
Kniazhytskyi: Hutsul Region should become the cultural center of Ukraine and Eastern and Central Europe
This was said by the Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Spirituality, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Mykola Kniazhytskyi on Sunday, December 23, during the opening of “Days of Ukrainian Cinema” in Verkhovyna. The film festival is being held in the Hutsul region for the third time and will last from December 23 to 25.
“Why did we decide to bring modern Ukrainian cinema here a year ago? Because it is obvious that these places, where beautiful people live, have always made representatives of the Ukrainian and European elite fall in love with them. Intellectuals always came here to admire the Carpathian landscapes and get to know the unique Hutsul culture. It was here that Ukrainian cinema was born.”
– said Mykola Kniazhytskyi.
He also emphasized that many ethnic groups of Ukrainians were destroyed, but the Hutsuls survived difficult times, but preserved their culture and traditions.
“I always wanted to bring many famous people here and make this place the cultural capital not only of Ukraine, but also of Eastern and Central Europe. And we have already started to do it, although it is not easy, because it is not that there is no cinema here – there is no cultural house. We hold a film festival in an ordinary school. However, you don’t have to wait for someone to build something. We need to develop this region. And today we are holding “Days of Ukrainian Cinema” here for the third time. A scientific and practical conference and a music festival were also held.”
– also emphasized the confident People’s Deputy of Ukraine.
Residents of the high-altitude Carpathian villages of Verkhovyna, Kosovi and Snyatin, where there are no cinemas, will have the opportunity to watch the latest Ukrainian premieres for free and talk to the actors performing the main roles in these films.
In particular, Oleg Moskalenko presented the film “The Wild Field” on the opening night of Days of Ukrainian Cinema, in which he played the main role.
“Wild Field”, “Stolen Princess: Ruslan and Lyudmila”, “Mad Wedding” will be shown in Kosovo and Snyatin. In Verkhovyna, in addition to these films, the film “Legend of the Carpathians” will be shown.
We will remind you that the “Days of Ukrainian Cinema” were held in Verkhovyna for the first time last year. That year’s films “Cyborgs”, “Storozhova Zastava”, “Alien’s Prayer”, “Border”, etc. presented the creators of these paintings to about three thousand residents of Verkhovyna and residents of the surrounding villages. In the summer, screenings of Ukrainian films were held in the village of Kryvorivnia as part of the First International Forum of Central and Eastern Europe “Via Carpatia”.

Residents of high mountain villages, where there are no cinemas, will have the opportunity to watch this year’s Ukrainian premieres for free and talk with the creators of “Wild Field”, “Crazy Wedding” and other films that have recently been released in Ukraine.
The organizers spoke about this on Saturday, December 22 in Ivano-Frankivsk during a press conference on “Days of Ukrainian Cinema”.
“Exactly a year ago, on the initiative of the Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Spirituality, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, this project was launched – a free showing of modern Ukrainian cinema in the highland villages of Hutsul Oblast, where there are no cinemas. At that time, few people believed that it could be implemented. However, a year ago, about three thousand spectators visited the film festival in Verkhovyna. Tomorrow, the third “Days of Ukrainian Cinema” festival begins in the Carpathians, and its geography is expanding.”
– said Mykola Tipusiak, deputy chairman of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”.
Anastasia Pugach, press secretary of the “Molodist” KMCF noted:
“A year ago, we first held days of Ukrainian cinema in Verkhovyna, and then we had the idea that such a project for cities where there are no cinemas should be implemented throughout the country, and we were supported by the Ministry of Information Policy. Modern Ukrainian cinema has really been revived. It is high-quality, competitive and diverse. Therefore, it is very important that all Ukrainians, even in remote towns, have the opportunity to watch it.”
Days of Ukrainian cinema will be held in Verkhovyna, Kosov and Snyatin from December 23 to 25.
“Wild Field”, “Stolen Princess: Ruslan and Lyudmila”, “Mad Wedding” will be shown in Kosovo and Snyatin. In Verkhovyna, in addition to these tapes, the film “Legend of the Carpathians” will be shown. But the film festival is notable for more than free screenings – after watching these films, the audience will be able to chat with actors who will personally come to present their works.
In particular, Oleg Moskalenko, the performer of the main role, will present “Wild Field”, Lesya Samaeva – “Crazy Wedding”, where she played the role of the bride’s mother, and “The Stolen Princess: Ruslan and Lyudmila” – Roman Lutskyi, who voiced one of the heroes of the cartoon.
We will remind you that the “Days of Ukrainian Cinema” were held in Verkhovyna for the first time last year. This year’s films “Cyborgs”, “Storozhava Zastava”, “Another’s Prayer”, “Border”, etc. were presented by the creators of these films to about three thousand residents of Verkhovyna and residents of the surrounding villages.
