About Us

Who Are We?

Demforum’s History

The All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum civil society organisation began its work in 2013.

The events of the Revolution of Dignity were pivotal in shaping our vision and subsequent work. They showed how important it is not only to achieve democratic change,
but also to sustain its development.

We recognised the need to create a space that would bring together active citizens, intellectuals, journalists, artists and civic leaders around a shared goal: building a democratic, strong
and European Ukraine.

These ideas have guided Demforum’s work ever since. We work
at the intersection of culture, media, education and international cooperation. We believe
these are the fields that shape society’s values, help preserve national identity
and strengthen democracy.

Via Carpatia

One of our largest
and longest-running projects is the Via Carpatia International Forum of Central
and Eastern Europe,
launched
in 2018
on the initiative of Mykola Kniazhytskyi.
Since then,
we have held it every year, bringing together Ukrainian
and European politicians, diplomats, academics, writers, artists
and civic leaders.

“Via Carpatia has truly become a hallmark of our organisation. Over the years,
the Forum has grown
into an international platform
for discussing
the future of Central and Eastern Europe, regional development, the preservation
of cultural heritage and stronger international partnerships. But what matters most
to us is the people the Forum brings together. Their ideas, experience
and willingness to work together give Via Carpatia fresh meaning every year
and keep it a place where shared initiatives are born.”

Stanisław Vincenz Prize

An important part of the Forum is the presentation of the Stanisław Vincenz Prize, which honours humanistic values, the development of intercultural dialogue
and service to society.

Demforum’s work extends well beyond a single project.
Over the years, we have carried out numerous cultural, educational, media and socially significant initiatives. These include supporting independent journalism, developing media professionals’ skills, promoting Ukrainian culture and history, producing documentary films, and organising public discussions
and international meetings.

Supporting young people and advancing education is a distinct strand of our work. In particular, the international educational project Leave No One Behind aims
to create new opportunities for Ukrainian schoolchildren, develop innovative education
and nurture youth leadership.

2022

Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 gave our work new significance.
Culture, education, independent media and international solidarity became not only tools for development,
but vital elements of Ukrainian resilience.
We continued delivering our projects, supporting international dialogue
and creating opportunities for Ukraine’s voice to be heard around the world.

Today

Today, the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum is a platform that brings people, ideas and institutions together for Ukraine’s future.
We believe a democratic society is built through cooperation, responsibility
and collective action. That is why we continue creating a space for meaningful conversations, new partnerships and initiatives
capable of changing the country.

Our History

The All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum began as an initiative by people working in media, culture and civil society who shared a belief: democracy depends on informed and engaged citizens.

The organisation’s founders came from journalism, law and cultural management. It began as a small team organising public discussions and educational events. New partners later joined, and its work expanded from Kyiv into the regions.

Today, the NGO works in several areas simultaneously: supporting independent media, holding an international forum and delivering educational projects for schools. The founders’ approach remains unchanged: bringing people from different fields together around a shared purpose.

Our Achievements

Over the years, DEMFORUM NGO has delivered dozens of media, cultural, educational and social projects alongside Ukrainian and international partners.

Leave No One Behind Educational Project

With Taiwan’s support and Mykola Kniazhytskyi’s assistance, the organisation attracts international investment to develop Ukrainian schools, equip them with modern technology and create opportunities for pupils in STEM, programming, robotics and leadership.

Developing Independent Media

With support from the US and Canadian embassies, USAID, Internews, the East Europe Foundation and other partners, DEMFORUM delivers journalism, educational and information projects, supports regional media and fosters socially significant content.
