In 2018, with support from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, Demforum NGO initiated a documentary about Olherd Bochkovskyi, a Ukrainian sociologist, political scientist, ethnologist, educator, essayist and civic leader.
Bochkovskyi is regarded as one of Europe’s leading scholars of nations and interethnic relations in the first half of the 20th century. He defended Ukrainian interests internationally, countered Soviet propaganda and headed the Committee for Famine Relief in Ukraine during the Holodomor of 1932–1933.
The documentary combines biographical research with elements of investigative journalism, archival materials and expert commentary.
The project aims to restore Olherd Bochkovskyi’s place in Ukraine’s historical memory, promote his academic legacy and show the contribution of Ukrainian intellectuals to European thought.
