The Flag of Independence initiative aimed to promote Ukraine’s national symbols and encourage people to celebrate National Flag Day and Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Ahead of 23–24 August, the campaign encouraged people to decorate their homes, workplaces and public spaces with blue-and-yellow flags and national symbols.
Over several years, the initiative brought together media outlets, civil society organisations, diplomats, writers, musicians and other prominent Ukrainians. Partners included Kraina FM, Hazeta po-ukrainsky and Plast, the National Scout Organisation of Ukraine.
The campaign became a way to unite people around Ukraine’s national symbols and make them more visible in public spaces ahead of the country’s major national holidays.
