Documentary Film “10 Years of War”

The All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum NGO and Espreso TV created the documentary “10 Years of War” with support from Internews Network and the US Embassy in Ukraine.

The film tells the story of ten years of Ukrainian resistance, from the Revolution of Dignity to Russia’s full-scale invasion. These historical events are seen through the lives of the film’s protagonists: civic activist and serviceman Roman Ratushnyi; his mother, poet and activist Svitlana Povalyaieva; journalist and servicewoman Tetiana Chornovol; and paramedic Yuliia Paievska (Taira).

Combining interviews, archive materials and contemporary footage, the film explores how the key events of 2013–2023 changed Ukraine and the lives of its citizens. It pays particular attention to the phenomenon of Ukrainian resistance, social transformations and Ukraine’s struggle for independence.

In 2024, preview screenings were held in Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil and Lutsk, accompanied by meetings with the film’s team and protagonists. On 24 August, Ukraine’s Independence Day, “10 Years of War” was broadcast on Espreso TV.

The film was also made for international audiences, using Ukrainians’ personal stories to explain the nature of Russian aggression, show the cost of Ukrainian resistance and keep Ukraine at the centre of international attention.
