In the book “Repelling an Airborne Alarm” there is a lot of youth “banter”, sarcasm about Russians who commit military crimes in Ukraine. Anastasia is currently introducing adult children to excerpts from a future book tentatively titled “Banana Street Stories,” which will tell the story of life in the shelter of her house, where beds were insulated with banana boxes. Lives in Kyiv. The author of 20 books for children. The book “Unbreakable Ants” entered the book of records of Ukraine for the most mass reading by Ukrainian children, and it was also awarded the Prize of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine named after Lesya Ukrainka. Ants – a story of indomitability for the smallest. In this book, there are so many reasons for a child to draw parallels with the victory of the Ukrainian army that there is no need for any other impressive methods of educating small patriots. The book “Why Do Dogs Bark” became the social book of the year in 2021 and received the prize of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine named after Platon Voronek. The book “Zomba” won the prize in the field of social prose “Chestnut branch”. These books in times of war are an additional source for parents to treat their children. Complex themes of loss are described with those language resources that harden a child’s heart and give the feeling that it is inevitable, even though it is unavoidable, there is always a continuation of the road. In order to promote the social project “Good Mother’s Tales”, the author arranges creative meetings for children in schools and libraries. Ms. Lesi’s books, without exaggeration, “live” on all continents. But it is extremely valuable to us that Lesya Kichura takes care of the libraries of the Kharkiv region, which were liberated from the occupation, in memory of Volodymyr Vakulenko’s brothers in arms. The author’s “live” presentations are unique. They are always attended by children who have lost… They have lost their home, their relatives, their small homeland. Their presence is not only a manifestation of the author’s care and attention, but also an opportunity to “envelop” with words, because “Good Fairy Tales” are recommended for bibliotherapy classes!

Against despair. Volodymyr works incredibly interestingly with young people – on his initiative, many events of the Forum of Military Writers are held among cadets.

Rustam Givazovych Dmytruk
Professional bartender. In February 2022, together with his partner, he was one step away from realizing his idea – opening a cocktail bar in the center of Lviv, but it did not happen. On February 24, he submitted to the TRO. That’s how he became a soldier – a shooter of a unit of the Teroborony brigade. He broke into literature, as well as into war – uncontrollably and loudly. Did he write poetry before – he does not admit it, only hints. But the command considers Rustam a chronicler of his time and supports Rustam’s participation in various literary events. In March 2023, the first collection of poems was published. “It happened almost by chance, a friend gave me a present for my birthday. I myself thought that there were very few poems and was meticulous about them. I wrote more for myself. But I’m glad that it turned out that way,” adds Rustam. Dmytrouk’s poetry is like a good cocktail. Mixed feelings and sincerity. The author’s unique declamatory manner made him a favorite of poetic battles. Accordingly, Rustam actively participates in literary events, if the operational situation at work allows. Now the author is preparing material for a new book, and it will be an interesting experience of combining impressions from observations of rear life and life in the war.

Since childhood, Oksana loved to read, but she saw ballet as her first “dream job”, although she was not at all inclined to dancing or to serious physical exertion, but she started telling her own toys fairy tales and stories she invented before she learned to write.
Oksana’s first published work was the book “What Angels Are They”, written during the last year of schooling (Oksana was 17 when the book was published). However, then Vesna had a break in creativity: the writer entered the Ukrainian Academy of Typography (studying to become an editor) and slightly pushed her successful creativity to the side.
Oksana’s second book “The Forest on the Edge” appeared as early as 2021, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as “What kind of angels are they?” it was a prose fantasy story. From the very beginning, Oksana positioned herself as a writer of prose forms, but the first large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation began, and “spring poems” (as the author herself calls them) began to appear (at the request of volunteers) at the Center on Rynok Square, 9. The collection “Unshot Poems” was written day after day — between volunteer routines. A poem is a short and emotional literary form, so it was through poems that Oksana wrote out her own feelings of anger, pain, and hatred for the enemy. But the most important component of “Unshot Poems” is hope. She lives in every spring work. Apparently, this is what Oksana Vesna wants to share with the world.

Vasyl himself is the author of the refrain of the Forum of Military Writers – “write, brothers, because they will write for you.” As a lawyer, Vasyl is actively involved in legal assistance to veterans and families of defenders. Now on the defense of our country.

Via Carpatia 2023
The sixth international artistic and intellectual forum Via Carpatia: “The future of tradition: Ukrainian in the global world”, which this year was held in Ivano-Frankivsk on October 13-15, ended with the presentation of the annual award named after an outstanding friend of Ukraine, a Polish philosopher and chronicler of the Hutsul Region Stanisław Vincenz “For Humanistic Service and a Contribution to Regional Development“.
This time, Yosyf Zisels – public figure, dissident, executive co-president of the Vaad of Ukraine, executive vice-president of the Congress of National Communities of Ukraine, initiator and head of the “Recovery during the war” program – was awarded the prestigious award.
Laureates of the Stanisław Vincenz Prize are intellectuals and public figures who have made a significant contribution to cultural or social development. In past years, it was received by Yuliia Paievska (Taira), Myroslav Marynovych, Ivan Malkovych, Leonid Finberg and Petro Rykhlo. They, friends and partners form the “Vincenz Circle” – an intellectual club of people united by high humanistic ideals.

“I am not a very emotional person, but now I am overwhelmed with feelings – first of all, feelings of gratitude to the Via Carpatia chapter for such a high assessment of my modest contribution to the life of Ukraine, – said, accepting the award in Ivano-Frankivsk from the hands of the Via Carpatia Forum initiator Mykola Kniazhytskyi, Yosyf Zisels. – I lived most of my life in Chernivtsi, in the Carpathian region. As a child, I bought books for myself – my father gave me money. I remember how one book caught my attention among many others. It was called “On the High Uplands”. I found out later that it was a book by Stanisław Vincenz, written in 1938. It was translated into Ukrainian in 1957. At that time I did not remember the author, but this book about the Hutsuls and the Carpathians, which I “became sick of”, had a great impact on me. Many years have passed – and I stand before you as a laureate of the Stanisław Vincenz Prize.”
To greet the participants and guests of the Via Carpatia Forum in Ivano-Frankivsk came acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostyslav Karandeev, who noted: “The Via Carpatia festival is designed to unite Ukrainians. Over the years, this festival movement has spread to much wider regions and even to countries that have the Carpathian mountains on their land”.
“It is very important for us to preserve this tradition – Via Carpatia took place both during the Covid-19 pandemic and in the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Last year we held a Forum in Lviv, – says the initiator of the Via Carpatia Forum, a People’s Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Kniazhytskyi. – But we dream of returning to Verkhovyna and Kryvorivnia – and we are already closer. Just as the Armed Forces of Ukraine are gradually liberating our territory. I believe that next summer we will hold the Via Carpatia in Verkhovyna and Kryvorivna, where we will communicate among the mountains, admiring the beauty of Cheremosh and listening to Hutsul melodies. This year in Ivano-Frankivsk, we had a good dialogue about the future of Ukraine.”
Over three days, dozens of different artistic and intellectual events took place within the framework of Via Carpatia 2023. The event from the series of open lectures at Vasyl Stefanyk Prykarpatsky National University has started. Literary and artistic meeting “Word in War” will be held on October 14-15 in Ivano-Frankivsk
On October 14-15, Ivano-Frankivsk will host the Sixth Artistic and Intellectual Forum Via Carpatia – under the slogan “The future of tradition: Ukrainian in the global world”. One of the key events of this year’s meeting place of intellectuals and experts in various fields will be Literary and artistic meeting “Word in War”, for which about two dozen military writers and volunteers will come to Ivano-Frankivsk. Some of them will arrive in Prykarpattia directly from the front.
Among the participants of the “Word in War” meeting at Via Carpatia 2023 – military writers and volunteers – Oleksandr Lysak, Olena Lototska, Kateryna Flekman, Serhii Dzyuba, Artemiy Kirsanov, Valeriya Borshchevska, Volodymyr Skorostetskyi, Andrii Lototskyi, Viktor Yankevich, Olena “Lastivka” Mokrenchuk, Rustam Dmytruk, Andrii Humenyuk, Olga Donechchanka, Oleg Borodai, Oksana Vesna, Ilya Titko and others. The program includes creative meetings, author’s readings, book presentations, master classes, performances by bards. All “Words in War” events will take place on the square in front of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko. In addition, a separate children’s program is planned – it will be concentrated in the lobby of the Drama Theater.
You can find the detailed program of the Literary and Artistic Meeting “Word in War”. here
“Humanity needs heroes, humanity must hold on to someone, – says the curator of “Words in War” TEtyana Pylypets, director of the Lviv Library named after Roman Ivanychuk, co-founder of the Forum of Military Writers and the literary and artistic festival “Kalmiyus”. – Samid all the horror of the war, Ukrainians found a chance to hold on to their Heroes. We no longer need imported or fictional characters. It is military authors who lead to the understanding of the concept of heroization. They are heroes, and with their works they decode this concept for us. Behind them appears the simple and majestic essence of the Ukrainian Warrior. For those who are engaged in the topic of war, but are deprived of the possibility of closer communication, events such as the “Word in War” meeting are not only about “frontline” literature, but also about the feeling of an inseparable connection between author and reader, civilian and military, between Ukrainians… After all, this is the point where the concept of “us and them” must be blurred.”
“Military literature of today’s Ukraine is Kevlar, a reflected pixel present, a mirror of our time, – tells Oleksandr Lysak, author-warrior, officer of the 54th OMBr named after Hetman Mazepa. – Ukraine is currently fighting for the elementary, God-given right to free will, freedom, and independence. In literature, our will to win, our pain from losses, and, of course, unquenchable faith in victory are preserved in words. All these reflections are now of great value. Because it is what it is now. This is the creation of a military context in modern Ukrainian literature, devoid of sarovarism, saloidism, and stereotypes and archetypes about us that are convenient for an aggressive, deranged neighbor. Ukraine has always been combative, could mobilize and repel any enemy. What do warrior authors write about? About his own combat experience – it comes out in different forms: in poetry, novels, diaries, memories. As for me, now they write to me occasionally, and this is, rather, a rehabilitative need to talk. That’s what hurts, what guys who can’t say won’t say. And I can, so I will speak for them. I say what I see, what I feel. This is my personal philosophy of war.”
As a reminder, six panel discussions will be held as part of Via Carpatia 2023: “At the crossroads. The fate of tradition in a globalized world”, “Getting out of the shadows. Positioning of Ukraine in the world”, “Emigration and solidarity. Between the conservation of the ancient and the promotion of the modern”, “Formation of the Armed Forces and volunteering. The role of tradition in modernization”, “Finding yourself. War as a trigger of national self-discovery” and “Church between tradition and future”. Among the speakers are Vitaliy Portnykov, Yosyf Zisels, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, Myroslava Barchuk, Anzhelika Rudnytska, Rostyslav Derzhypilskyi, Olga Salo, Elmira Ablyalimova, Tetyana Pylypets, Volodymyr Vyatrovych, Bohdan Tikholoz, Vitaly Gaidukevych, Marina Syngaivska, Leonid Finberg, Antin Borkovskyi and others. All discussions can be watched live on the Espreso TV channel.
Traditionally, during the Via Carpatia, the prize will be awarded in the name of an outstanding friend of Ukraine, the Polish philosopher and chronicler of Hutsul region Stanisław Vincenz “For Humanistic Service and a Contribution to Regional Development”.

On October 14–15, Ivano-Frankivsk will host the Via Carpatia arts and ideas forum “The Future of Tradition: The Ukrainian Dimension in a Global World”
On October 14 and 15, Ivano-Frankivsk will host the sixth artistic and intellectual forum Via Carpatia, bringing together dozens of Ukrainian activists and intellectuals from various fields.
“The future of tradition: Ukrainian in the global world” — this will be the main topic of this year’s Via Carpatia Forum. The forum will be held for the sixth time. In past years, it took place in the heart of the Hutsul region – in Verkhovyna and Kryvorivna, as well as in Lviv. And this time, the city of Ivano-Frankivsk will be a two-day space for dialogue and understanding of Ukrainian tradition, its transformation in the future and presentation to the world.
As part of Via Carpatia 2023 will be held six panel discussions: “At the crossroads.
Among the speakers are Vitaliy Portnykov, Yosyf Zisels, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, Myroslava Barchuk, Anzhelika Rudnytska, Rostyslav Derzhypilskyi, Olga Salo, Elmira Ablyalimova, Tetyana Pylypets, Volodymyr Vyatrovych, Bohdan Tikholoz, Vitaly Gaidukevich, Marina Syngaivska, Leonid Finberg, Antin Borkovskyi and others.
All discussions can be viewed live on the Espreso TV channel, which is the general TV partner of the forum.
“Via Carpatia 2023 is a meeting place of the strong, – says the initiator of the Forum, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, head of the subcommittee on cultural policy of the committee on humanitarian and information policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykola Kniazhytskyi. – It is important for us to attract participants from all corners of Ukraine: from the Carpathians to the Crimea, from Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk to Poltava, those who create the present and project the future of Ukraine – in a global context.”
Along with the panel discussions, there will also be literary and artistic meeting “Word in War”. This is a book fair for which about two dozen military writers will come to Ivano-Frankivsk, including those from the front.
“Word in War” by Oleksandr Lysak, Olena Lototska, Kateryna Flekman, Serhii Dzyuba, Artemiy Kirsanov, Valeriya Borshchevska, Volodymyr Skorostetskyi, Andriy Lototskyi, Andriy Kyrychenko, Vasyl Palamarchuk, Vitaly Zapeka, Viktor Yankevych, Olena “Lastivka” Mokrenchuk, Rustam Dmytruk, Andriy Gumenyuk, and Olga Donechchanka.
“The Forum of Military Writers usually gathers those who – as they say about themselves – do not consider themselves writers. Because they “simply describe what they saw with their own eyes”. Note that what they saw with their own eyes at “zero” — explains the curator of “Words in War” Tatiana Pylypets, director of the Lviv Library named after Roman Ivanychuk, co-founder of the Forum of Military Writers and the literary and artistic festival “Kalmiyus”.
In addition, intellectual discussions will be complemented by the show performances “Nation” of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Academic Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko. We will also perform orchestra of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade “Edelweiss” and singer Yuriy Yosifovych.
A number of thematic lectures are planned in Prykarpattia National University named after Vasyl Stefanyk. And the forum will be hosted by the legend of Ukrainian independence music, honored artist of Ukraine Anzhelika Rudnytska.
“This fall, thanks to Via Carpatia, Ivano-Frankivsk will become richer and more voluminous for a few days. Our theater has the opportunity to show the participants and guests of the Forum one of our highlights: the performance “Nation” based on the work of the same name by Maria Mathios. We have performed it in many places – both abroad and in Ukraine: from Mount Piv Ivan to Pripyat, – notes the general director, artistic director of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko Rostyslav Derzhypilskyi. – It’s a very symbolic performance about preserving identity.”
Traditionally, during Via Carpatia will take place presentation of the award name an outstanding friend of Ukraine, a Polish philosopher and chronicler of the Hutsul region Stanisław Vincenz “For Humanistic Service and a Contribution to Regional Development.”

Culture matters now: A dialogue on policy for culture and the humanities at the Congress of Culture
On September 7-8, 2023, a special event of the “Renaissance” foundation took place within the framework of the Congress of Culture. Public experts and representatives of the authorities gathered for the advocacy dialogue “Reforms and restoration of the humanitarian sphere of Ukraine: institutions of culture and national memory”.
They participated in the discussion Alim Aliyev, Deputy General Director of the Ukrainian Institute; Yevhen Bystrytskyi, editor-in-chief of “Vision 2030”; Oksana Zabolotna, analyst of the Center for Joint Actions; Roman Kabachiy, publicist, historian, senior researcher of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War; Rostislav Karandeev, in at. Minister of Culture and Information Policy; Mykola Kniazhytskyi, people’s deputy, member of the parliamentary committee on humanitarian and information policy; Yuri Mykytyuk, head of regional programs, senior advocacy manager of the Coalition Reanimation Package of Reforms; Olesya Ostrovska-Lyuta, Director of State Enterprise NKMMK “Mystetskyi Arsenal”.
The dialogue was conducted on the basis of policy document “Vision of Ukraine 2030: social and humanitarian sphere”, created by the Coalition “Resuscitation Package of Reforms” together with the School of Political Analytics of the National Academy of Sciences and 50 independent public experts with the support of the “Join!” Public Activity Promotion Program, which presents the vision of reforming and restoring Ukraine in the social and humanitarian sphere.
The senior advocacy manager of the RPR Coalition commented on the event as follows: “Participant Culture is on time. Dialogue about culture in time. It is not time to just ignore problems in the field of national memory and cultural institutions. There is a famous quote by Voltaire: “The Holy Roman Empire was really neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.” Also, our vision document, which was the subject of discussion today at the Third Congress of Culture in Lviv, is not a complete reform plan – it is only the first step towards a dialogue between civil society and the authorities.”

The head of programs of the Liberation Movement Research Center spoke about the policy of national memory and Head of the board of the NGO “DemForum” Yaryna Yasynevych. She is sure: “In a post-colonial and post-genocide society that lives in war, human rights principles must be clearly integrated into the policy of national memory. It is about the creation of social immunity to violations of human rights, the formation of readiness to defend both the independence of the country and the freedom of citizens.”

On May 18-19, the 9th International Forum “Europe with an eye to the Future” was held in Gdansk, Republic of Poland
The 9th International Forum “EUROPE WITH A LOOK TO THE FUTURE” took place in Gdańsk, Republic of Poland, on May 18-19 with the efforts of the European Solidarity Center, the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”, other partners and with the informational support of the Espreso TV channel.
Forum — an international socio-political project, which is a response to the need for European reflection, which involves both a group of experts and those who are interested in public discussion about the current challenges of our continent.
This year’s forum “Europe with a view to the future” tells about how the war in Ukraine changed other countries. Among the participants of the Forum: Mykola Kniazhytskyi – people’s deputy of Ukraine, Yaryna Yasinevych – chairman of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”, director of the International Forum of Central and Eastern Europe “Via Carpatia”, Oleksandra Matviychuk – human rights activist from the Center for Civil Liberties, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Maria Ionova – People’s Deputy of Ukraine, member of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, Pyotr Andrusechko – journalist, war correspondent, laureate of the 2014 Grand Press Journalist of the Year award, Volodymyr Sheyko – director of the Ukrainian Institute, Maryana Savka – editor-in-chief of “Stary Lev Publishing House” and others.
“For European freedom and peace to be permanent, it is not enough for Ukraine to win this war. It is important to clearly set the goal of the disintegration of the Russian Federation and the liberation of all the peoples enslaved by it. It is possible to overcome Russia, break away from its imperial influence, get rid of illusions about the possibility of its democratization within its current borders. In order for a democratic Russia to emerge, the peoples enslaved by it must gain freedom. The important task of the democratic world is to help them”, – said the head of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” Yaryna Yasynevych during her speech at the panel discussion “The unfinished process of decolonization – a threat to European integration”.

Declaration strongly condemns Russian imperialism, which has reached an extreme in the form of Ruscism, and attests to the intentions of the representatives of both countries to jointly protect and preserve Ukraine’s deep democratic traditions and developed civil society; to contribute to the reconstruction and modernization of the war-damaged economy and infrastructure of Ukraine.
Ukrainian and Polish parliamentarians, politicians, artists, human rights defenders, religious scholars, scientists supported the need for the institutional development of civil society, its movement towards membership in Ukrainian structures and the creation of the institution of a democratic civil society – Center for Freedom and Democracy in Lviv.
“The idea to create a Center for Freedom and Democracy in Lviv was born in Gdańsk, in the European Solidarity Center. I was impressed both by the place itself and by the team led by my friend Basil Kerskyi. He and I talked a lot about the experience of the Center, similar centers in Europe, whose activities are united by the promotion of freedom, democracy and European values. And they jointly noted that there is a gap in this European network, because Ukraine is missing.” – said one of the signatories of the document, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, people’s deputy of Ukraine and co-chairman of the parliamentary group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on inter-parliamentary relations with the Republic of Poland.

He considers the creation of such a center in Lviv to be symbolic, because the city’s tradition stands at the crossroads of civilizations, cultures, religions and peoples. According to Kniazhytskyi, Lviv has become a standard of Europeanness of Ukraine and the natural nature of our integration with the EU and NATO. The Declaration states that the Center should become a platform for creating free, non-political intellectual platforms for researching social processes, strengthening and spreading basic social values, supporting and developing civil society institutions and independent media, and promoting democratic movements in countries with authoritarian regimes.
“The Center for Freedom and Democracy should become an important point on the map of European cultural institutions, on a par with such recognized institutions as the European Solidarity Center in Gdańsk”, – the signatories believe.

In addition, the document declares that Ukraine should become a full member of the European Union as soon as possible, and the economic, infrastructural and cultural reconstruction of our country should take place with the help of Western countries. The declaration also states that the revival of Russian imperialism was facilitated by indifference to the region of Eastern Europe, and Western democracies must recognize that economic priorities cannot justify economic cooperation with countries that threaten world security.
