Competition for computer science teachers: winners will receive free training and computers for schools
On June 17, teachers were presented with the charitable educational project “Leave no one behind partnership” in Lviv. Educators have the opportunity to improve their IT skills at the Ukrainian Catholic University. And after graduation, participants will receive valuable gifts: computer equipment for computer science classrooms in schools.
The project will unite teachers from Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Poltava regions. Throughout the year, they will learn the basics of programming, robotics and STEM. Educators will transfer modern laptops, projectors with screens, and sets of constructors to their schools.
According to the coordinator of the project, a member of the Lviv City Council, Ulyana Pak, this is a unique opportunity for teachers to make the school modern. It is important that schoolchildren and their parents also motivate computer science teachers to participate in the competition.
“Participation for educators is free, valuable skills, incredible gifts – these are three reasons why you should apply for the competition. But hurry, the selection lasts until July 1. During the training period, teachers will learn about new methods of teaching computer science. And after the project, they will be able to practice skills with their students on new computers in schoolsUlyana Pak emphasized.
The selection of applications for participation in the “Leave no one behind partnership” project has started and will continue until July 1 of this year. A computer science teacher should fill out the registration form and pass the competitive selection.
The project is implemented by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” in cooperation with the Ukrainian Catholic University with the support of Taiwan and with the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi.
“A teacher must be authoritative for his students. It is important how the teacher conveys his knowledge, how modern and confident he is. Especially in the field of IT, because it develops and changes. What, if not valuable computer equipment, can make a school modern? This project makes technology accessible. Our goal is to teach children qualitatively and to make education so that Ukrainian families with children want to return to their families, which gives an opportunity to change the school, develop education and the country“, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, the founder of the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum, emphasized during a meeting with educators.
The meeting with educators ended with a professional discussion on the topic: “Code & Create: education in time”.
Andriy Zakaliuk, head of the education department of the development department of the Lviv City Council, emphasized that such a project is unique and there are already many people willing to take part in it. “A project about synergy: teachers, school administration and one of the best institutions of higher education. Today we are not just talking about technology for schools, what it should be, but also about how to use technical means as effectively as possible. Teachers now need innovative knowledge and support”, – said Andriy Zakaliuk.
The first vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, doctor of philosophy in mathematical analysis, Yaroslav Prytula, explained that UCU students will also be involved in the classes with teachers. Since they have recently graduated from school, they remember their school education. Students’ ideas will help change the approach to teaching computer science and stimulate teachers to involve students more in the educational process.

Leave no one behind: computer science teachers from 24 schools will be taught programming free of charge
Computer science teachers from three regions of Ukraine will learn the basics of Python programming, robotics and STEM education. Schools whose teachers have been trained will receive new equipment for computer classes free of charge.
The head of the board of the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum public organization Yaryna Yasynevych and the rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University Taras Dobko signed an agreement on the joint implementation of the charitable educational project “Leave no one behind partnership”.
During the year, teachers and IT practitioners from UCU will conduct three training modules for educators. After completing the training, informatics teachers from the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Poltava regions will receive certificates and equipment for school informatics classrooms.
The project was initiated with the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi. Last year, more than 100 computers were handed over to Ukrainian schools. This year, the project included an educational component – professional training of teachers.
“Ukrainian children should be kept in Ukraine and interested in education as much as possible. Computer science teachers will learn from the best IT specialists, and then pass on their knowledge to schoolchildren. Such synergy is important for creating a community of young Ukrainians aimed at progress and technological development. This is the future victory and this is a powerful investment of Taiwan in the intellectual potential of Ukraine”, Mykola Kniazhytskyi emphasized.
According to UCU rector Taras Dobko, the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine after the war depends primarily on competent, professional, patriotic people.
“In order for such people to appear, schools and universities work. This program will strengthen teachers in the area of computer science and information technology. They will be able to undergo additional training, gain knowledge in robotics, and get the opportunity to open robotics classes. This will help develop the skills of schoolchildren who are interested in this field, and who will help Ukraine to become a technologically independent country. We believe that these young people will stay in Ukraine and work on the restoration of our state,” concluded Taras Dobko, rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University.
To participate in the project, teachers should fill out the registration form, which will open on June 17. In advance, educators are invited to take a survey, which is led by the Team of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU in cooperation with the Public Organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”. If you are a computer science teacher teaching in Ukraine, your experience will be very valuable for us in shaping the content of the computer science and robotics curriculum for teachers. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScaDraCo8IOisXlStyQ-9hWevwV95DalM_xHaR6INikmgBf6Q/viewform

The pre-premiere screening of the film “Ten Years of War” was held
On May 27, a preview screening was held in Kyiv of the film “Ten Years of War”. The film is a joint project of the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum, the Espreso TV channel, with the support of the Media Development Fund of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
They became the heroes of the film Roman Ratushny, Svitlana Povalyaeva, Taira, Tetyana Chornovol. The fates of the heroes are intertwined with the key moments of the recent history of Ukraine, from the first actions of the Revolution of Dignity to the active phase of the full-scale Russian invasion. The film explores the phenomenon of Ukrainian resistance and how the heroes – public activist Roman Ratushny, his mother, poet and activist Svitlana Povalyaeva, politician and journalist Tetyana Chornovol, paramedic Yuliia Paievska (Taira) – reacted to the Maidan and the war and how their lives changed against the background of historical events.
The project team and partners who participated in its creation spoke about the idea and purpose of the film on the stage of the capital’s “Oscar” cinema.
“The idea to create the film “10 Years of War” was born almost a year ago, in the summer of 2023: the team and I were thinking about what project to make for the 10th anniversary of Espreso and decided to make a documentary. After all, the history of Espreso is closely connected with the history of the country: we were born in the first days of the Revolution of Dignity. And these last 10 years have become both the most difficult and the most important in the modern history of Ukraine.”, – said the general producer of Espreso Anastasia Ravva.
“This film is actually also about us. We don’t just record events, we experience them, we live in them… With this film, we are counting, first of all, on an international audience to show them what is really happening in Ukraine”, – commented Kateryna Yermolovich, director of the Espreso TV channel.
The founder of the Espreso TV channel emphasized that the main idea of the film is to make Ukraine and our war understandable to foreigners Mykola Kniazhytskyi. According to him, a wide distribution of the film abroad is planned for this.
He became the director and screenwriter of the film Oleg Garenchar, who lives and works in the USA. His work includes a number of historical documentaries for the BBC, feature films, awards at international film festivals. Garenchar has long been associated with Ukraine: he cooperated with the Espreso TV channel from the first days of its creation.
“The purpose of our film is to remind everyone in the world about what is happening in Ukraine, and to continue working until it ends, until Ukraine returns to its original borders and the people of Ukraine can live in peace”, – commented the director. And he expressed his desire to unite the international community in support of Ukraine with the help of the film.
The creation of the film was supported by the US Embassy in Ukraine. “The full-scale invasion is not just an attempt to destroy the infrastructure and the economy, it is trying to erase the rich history and unique culture of Ukraine, to destroy you as a people and a state. Together we pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of Ukraine. The US is proud to be able to support the production of this important film, because the story of Ukraine must be told.”, – commented the representative of the press office of the US Embassy in Ukraine Megan Tetrick.
And Gillian McCormack, director of “Internews” in Ukraine, noted that the world should not forget what is happening, and Ukraine should receive as much help as it needs to win.
“The sacrifices for 10 years were so great and so painful that it is very important that they are not in vain. The people shown in the film inspire and motivate not only to win, but also to make sure that after the victory the society will be worthy of the people who gave their lives for it.”, – she noted Gillian McCormack.
Journalist and publicist Vitaliy Portnykov emphasized that one of the biggest problems of our statelessness before 1991 was that Ukrainians looked at the world through Russia’s eyes, and the world looked at Ukraine through Russian eyes, so since then the main thing for us is to change this situation.
“Our task is to make our personal experiences become the personal experiences of people in the world that helps us fight. And the main thing is to tell people in the civilized world: our friends, our colleagues, our personal experiences and beliefs are worth protecting.” – summarized Vitaliy Portnykov.
The film “10 years of war” will be shown both in Ukraine and abroad. Later, it will also be available to watch on the Espreso TV channel.

The project was implemented by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” in partnership with the Espreso TV channel with the support of the Media Development Fund of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

As part of the implementation of the Acer & Demforum Can Help project, smart exercise bikes have appeared in Lviv institutions
As part of the Acer & Demforum Can Help project, smart exercise bikes appeared in Lviv institutions.
The ceremony of handing over ACER eKinekt sets took place in three institutions in Lviv. Exercise bikes with the function of recharging devices were given to St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital, Ukrainian Catholic University and Lviv Polytechnic National University.
John Scott Marchant, an adviser to Taiwan’s Minister of Digitization, said that the exercise bikes were definitely wanted to be sent to Ukraine: “Because today Ukraine uses backup power. And these exercise bikes are energy-independent and will generate electricity themselves. So for six months we worked on this idea together with the Democratic Forum and the Taiwanese company Acer, which produces high-quality modern electronics. And it happened. I think it’s a great invention, especially for Ukrainian youth.”.
Yevgeny Smelyak, a representative of the ACER company, explained how the following devices work: “The battery in exercise bikes accumulates energy and outputs it to the USB or TypeC ports. Thanks to this, mobile devices will be charged. Also, the exercise machines are adjustable in height, there are four working modes – that is, a person can adjust to his height, to his weight, to his modes.”

St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital received 2 exercise bikes, and universities received 5 devices each.
“We are trying to create a space in the hospital that is close to home conditions, so that children feel comfortable. Such devices will be in the hall – this is a place where there are always many children. Exercises on simulators will be performed, of course, with the permission of the doctor, so their use will be safe.” – Ivan Miskiv, chief physician of the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital.
At each location, competitions were held on smart exercise bikes for charging gadgets at speed. The most agile cyclists received gifts.
“It is very interesting and convenient, because you are both exercising and charging your phone or tablet. In addition, you can increase or decrease the level of difficulty and choose the mode that suits you”, – a 12-year-old patient of Milan’s St. Nicholas Hospital shares her impressions. Students share their enthusiasm. Bohdan Mirinchyk, head of the students’ board of Lviv Polytechnic says: “This is a very useful project, so that students can develop comprehensively – including playing sports, participating in various tournaments. It is very cool that it is in the buildings of the Lviv Polytechnic that they can come and exercise in pairs and minimally train their bodies”. But UKU students came up with ideas on how to additionally use these bicycles: “We already have some ideas on how to use these exercise bikes. We have an initiative to create batteries for the military. And we will put such batteries nearby and charge them right away, because they need to be charged somehow. This is a good way for students to have a good time and do good deeds that correspond to the values of our university.”, – shared Gleb Klymenko, president of the UCU Student Government.

Humanitarian aid from the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Taiwan and the company “Acer” (Acer Taiwan and Acer Ukraine) is organized by the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”.
We remind you that November 14, 2023 head of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” Yaryna Yasynevych signed Memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC (Taiwan).
“We have been cooperating with Taiwan for a long time, because Taiwan is a democracy in the East. Taiwan really wants to help Ukraine. The Taiwanese and I have already implemented a project to help school students in Lviv and Poltava. Now we are also working on training computer science teachers and supplying new computers. And today we have delivered to Lviv institutions not just exercise bikes, but modern gadgets that allow us to maintain a healthy lifestyle and ecology.”, – Mykola Kniazhytskyi, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, said during the ceremony.

The draft law “On honest lobbying” in its current form can be used to curtail freedom and democracy in Ukraine
Joint statement of civil society organizations
On January 10, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the government proposal in the first reading draft law “On Honest Lobbying” No. 10337. The European Commission identified the adoption of the law on lobbying as one of the prerequisites for the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, however, as introduced by the government, this draft law only distances us from European values and directly threatens freedom, democracy and constitutional rights in Ukraine.
In the version of the first reading, this project will not only not reduce the oligarchic and unscrupulous influences on decision-making by the authorities, but will also increase the closedness of the authorities, will allow pressure on any “inconvenient” citizens or civil society organizations that will criticize the authorities, demand reforms or changes in public policy.
Such citizens or organizations will be required to register as “lobbyists” under threat of fines, like “foreign agents” in Putin’s Russia. That is, a system of government pressure on civil society will be created. People will be prosecuted for “illegal lobbying” for participating in a round table, submitting proposals for legislation, public examination or meeting with an official.
All key proposals of representatives of public organizations, which were part of the working group for the preparation of the draft law for the second reading, created by the parliamentary committee on legal policy, were ignored. The revised version of the draft law will continue to allow prosecution of citizens or public organizations for criticism or proposals for legislation under the pretext of defending their “commercial interests”. The latter are vaguely worded — any donation to support an organization for advocating anti-corruption, political, or other reforms may be considered its “commercial interest.”
There is a risk that the committee and the parliament in general may adopt draft law No. 10337 in a wording that will allow the authorities to consider any active citizens and public associations as lobbyists, demand reporting for every meeting, call, press conference and other “lobbying” activities, fine and publicly discredit in the eyes of the public. That is, not the citizens will control the government, but the government will control the citizens and punish them for their public activity.
In the current Ukrainian realities, when constitutional rights are already limited under martial law, authorities work in a non-transparent manner, and public activists, journalists, and businessmen increasingly become the object of harassment and intimidation in connection with their professional activities, such a law will narrow the space for civil society.
Therefore, this project needs serious — and not cosmetic — changes, which should be accepted not only by the European Union and the Ukrainian authorities, but also by Ukrainian society.
Without such systemic changes, this project is unacceptable and will only harm Ukraine’s European progress.
We thank dozens of people’s deputies from various factions and groups for their support and submission of public organizations developed by experts amendments, which will remove key threats to the draft law.
In connection with this we urge The Committee on Legal Policy, all People’s Deputies of Ukraine, when considering project No. 10337 in the second reading, take into account these amendments, first of all:
clearly provide that the effect of the law on lobbying does not extend to the exercise and protection by citizens of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, and to the activities of non-profit organizations and non-profit institutions, including public associations.
We urge you to involve representatives of business associations, industry associations of enterprises, as well as representatives of European organizations in Ukraine, EU experts in the field of lobbying in the analysis and preparation for the second reading of the draft law.
We call on institutions of civil society and all conscious citizens to support our position.

The public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” continues to implement the “Youth presents the future” project.
The main goal of the project is to teach young people to effectively present their ideas and projects, creating a basis for the further development of youth initiatives and contributing to the overall development of the country.
The results of the first training stream of the Course of Public Speaking and Making Presentations: 8 public speaking classes and 8 public speaking classes were held.
12 talented participants took part in each direction of the course, which is a great confirmation of the interest and activity of young people. During the training, the participants gained practical knowledge of public speaking and creating presentations, which inspires us for further achievements.
At the last session of the course, the participants presented their work.
One of the bright presentations was a speech Nazar Kirik. He spoke about the creation of the Youth Fund. The project on which Nazar and his team are currently working to provide new opportunities to the youth of Lviv, NeoTalk, which is a necessary component of our project, is a lecture hall where young people not only present their ideas and knowledge, but also improve their public speaking skills.
It happened in a short period of time 6 events, in which they performed 12 lecturers, and the number of participants exceeded 100. This shows the success and importance of NeoTalk in youth development and providing new opportunities.
We are currently recruiting for a new stream of public speaking and presentation creation courses. The start of which took place on January 8.
