Entrepreneurship camp in the Carpathians: six mountain schools received certificates for Taiwanese computers

High school students from six mountain communities of Ivano-Frankivsk region took part in the entrepreneurship and innovation camp. The school teams worked for two days at the Krasnoil Lyceum of the Verkhovyna Settlement Council. Upon completion of training, students received certificates for computer equipment for school computer science classrooms

According to the coordinator of the Leave no one behind project, Ulyana Pak, mountain areas have somewhat limited infrastructure, but because of this, children should not be deprived of access to modern educational resources: the labor market everywhere requires knowledge of technology.

“We have involved schoolchildren from remote communities to study, and soon we will transfer modern equipment to their schools. With this project, we are creating a space for creativity. So that teenagers can feel their own potential and understand how to use it in the future. Such an opportunity appeared thanks to Taiwan’s investment in Ukrainian education,” Ulyana Pak addressed the schoolchildren.

The project manager in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, Maria Makivnychuk, said that the entrepreneurship and innovation camp was held in the Ivano-Frankivsk region for the third time.

“In general, the project covered 16 educational institutions in the region. We hope that some of the trainees will eventually be engaged in business,” said Maria Makivnychuk.

Maria Shkindyuk has been working as the director of the Krasnoil Lyceum of the Verkhovyna settlement council for 20 years. For two decades, the premises were repaired and completed. The lyceum has become a support school in which about 500 children study.

“We have equipped computer labs, but there is a lack of computers. And because of this, we have to divide classes into groups. In addition, not all children have computers at home. At school, they get a chance to learn about technology. We teach them the Python programming language, they perform interesting tasks and prepare for further education and work in the IT field,” added Maria Shkindyuk.

Participants of the entrepreneurship and innovation camp

Odarka Budzan, a teacher at the Zelensky Lyceum of the Zelensky Village Council of the Ivano-Frankivsk Region, came to the camp with her students. According to her, children’s interest in information technologies grows every year, and sometimes you want to learn innovation and creativity from children. Children need knowledge for admission, planning for the future.

Maksym Kolyada, coach of entrepreneurship and innovation camps, recommended that schoolchildren remember three important components: entrepreneurship is, first of all, the benefit you create for others. Secondly, it is about the effectiveness of own decisions. And the third is profit. That is, the resources you receive must exceed the costs.

Each team produced an improvised model of their own useful product that stands out in the market. She also presented the idea of development and popularization of her own community.

The camp is organized within the framework of the Ukrainian-Taiwanese project Leave no one behind partnership, which is implemented by the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum Public Organization with the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

“This project involves innovative training of schoolchildren, upgrading the qualifications of teachers and the computerization of educational institutions. Our country will be strong and better if it educates intellectual, motivated youth. That is why we are directing investment from partners from Taiwan to education. In total, we will hold more than 20 entrepreneurship and innovation camps in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Poltava regions. In September, we will start transferring technology in educational institutions. In total, these are more than 1,100 new computers for computer science classrooms,” Mykola Kniazhytskyi said.

For innovative ideas, Prykarpattia schools will receive computers for computer science classrooms

From August 13 to 16, students from eight schools were trained in entrepreneurship and innovation camps within the framework of the Leave no one behind partnership program at the Verkhovyna and Starokosiv Lyceums in the Ivano-Frankivsk region

Upon completion of training, student teams will receive certificates for new computer equipment for school computer science classrooms from a well-known Taiwanese brand.

The Leave no one behind partnership project brought together students from five schools in the Verkhovyna district and three schools in the Kosiv district. Together with trainers, children formulate their own business ideas, create prototypes of innovative tents and shoulder bags.

“Innovations are solutions capable of solving problems better than all existing proposals. And the ability to build a structure around such an idea is entrepreneurship. It is necessary to develop entrepreneurship in oneself in order to see opportunities in the space of problems,” said coach, assistant of the Department of Applied Economics and Business of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU Maksym Kolyada.

The coordinator of the Leave no one behind partnership project, Ulyana Pak, emphasized that the purpose of the educational camps is to motivate young people to create their own business in the future.

“Every idea that schoolchildren and coaches have developed can become a startup. The children demonstrate fantastic creativity and courage in their dreams. Our goal is to teach them how to turn ideas into reality, create successful business models and realize their own potential. Now there will be many such ideas. After all, we will hold camps in different communities of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Poltava regions,” said Ulyana Pak.

During interactive games, training participants create models of innovative tents and shoulder bags, learn to sell their own innovative products. And also – form business plans, analyze the concepts of “profit” and “losses”, create a portrait of the client.

“Motivational projects for children in mountainous areas are a unique opportunity for development, since there are not enough such activities in remote regions. Schoolchildren learn to consciously and responsibly plan their own future. And later they will develop the economy of mountain communities,” said Maria Makivnychuk, project manager in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The camps are organized by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” as part of the Leave no one behind project, with the support of Taiwan and the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

“Youth will build a new country with their ideas, knowledge, and decisive actions. Modern education is the basis for the development of a new generation of Ukrainian scientists, engineers, programmers, and entrepreneurs. Now we must take care of schools, provide conditions for interested learning. Eventually, children will be able to realize their potential in Ukraine. They are very talented and needed by their country. Together with our partners from Taiwan, we will train more professional teachers, and also combine technology education with development entrepreneurial skills among schoolchildren. These are two directions of Taiwanese investment in the future of Ukraine,” stressed Mykola Kniazhytskyi, founder of the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum.

The first training module for computer science teachers ended with an excursion to a technology company

The first training module for computer science teachers under the program of the Ukrainian-Taiwanese project “Leave no one behind” ended with an excursion to the Renesas electronics company.

The participants of the educational project, which are teachers of 24 schools in the Lviv Ivano-Frankivsk and Poltava regions, studied at the Ukrainian Catholic University for a week. In order to see how technologies are used in practice, the teachers visited the laboratories of a modern company, which manufacture technologies of the future – microchips for electronic devices, semiconductor devices.

“You can tell the children that the project they are going to do will fly into space,” said Oleh Sapiga, a representative of the company’s engineering team, to motivate students to study computer science and robotics. He explained that firms that previously specialized in programming are now gradually introducing engineering solutions. And on the labor market, the need for specialists in engineering and technical specialties is constantly growing.

“Often children at school say: why do I need physics or robotics? However, the perspective now is precisely in the direction of technical engineering. We will talk more about this with our students, target them for development in this direction,” said Lyubov Grabovenska, a teacher at Lviv School No. 86.

Educators shared that they want even more time to think through, understand, and remember the information they received.

According to the coordinator of the educational innovation project “Leave no one behind partnership”, Ulyana Pak, this week every teacher was given a laptop and a set of robotics for practical training, as well as an opportunity to get to know each other, communicate, and create a new community.

“Today, during the excursion, we saw how programs and technologies are practically applied. It is a combination of practice and science. The level of teachers we have assembled varies, but all of them will have quality knowledge in Stem, Python and robotics. In addition, now every week the participants will have another 4 hours of online training, and later they will meet again at a session with UCU teachers,” said Ulyana Pak.

Tetyana Nelyuba works in Poltava specialized comprehensive school No. 40 for visually impaired children. A computer science teacher dreams that her students will one day be able to create unique technologies that would make the lives of blind people easier.

“I really want to create more IT opportunities for my students. Therefore, I applied for this educational program to improve the qualifications of teachers. In five days, we received an intensive presentation of the material from the teachers of UCU. They even worked in the evenings, building robots until late, and it was very useful and interesting,” said Tetyana.

Oleg Farenyuk, head of the “Robotics” educational program at UCU, explained that they decided to involve UCU students before the lectures. This is an opportunity for better communication with teachers, more effective learning and achieving better results.

“In a few days, we showed the participants what the robot is made of, how to program it, what executive devices it has, sensors, and how to use them. All informatics teachers successfully completed the task, received recommendations and will be able to practice and tell others about robotics in the future,” Oleg Fareniuk emphasized.

Several months of teacher training will end with the transfer of computer science classroom equipment to schools. Each educational institution will receive a set of 16 laptops, sets of robotics, projectors with screens. The project team announces that most of the schools that applied for participation will already be involved in the next program on entrepreneurship and innovation.

“48 teachers from 24 schools are trained at UCU. And there were 143 applications in total. Therefore, we will also involve students and educators from other schools in innovative training. Teams of trainers will travel to communities, will hold interactive camps with schoolchildren, teaching young people design thinking, development of ideas that can soon become successful startups. The first such camp will be held in Verkhovyna, Ivano-Frankivsk region,” Ulyana Pak said.

The project is implemented by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” with the support of Taiwan and with the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

“Our youth will build a new country. We should create comfortable conditions for children to study, get them interested. With this project, we motivate children through teachers, give modern technology to schools. It is important that the youth stay and develop in Ukraine. After all, people are the most valuable resource,” emphasized Mykola Kniazhytskyi, the founder of the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum NGO.

With Taiwanese laptops and robotics: exclusive training for computer science teachers started at UCU

On Monday, July 22, a unique training program in programming, STEM education and robotics for computer science teachers began. 48 teachers from 24 schools met at the Ukrainian Catholic University to study for free for several months. The charitable educational project “Leave no one behind partnership” is implemented thanks to the support of Taiwan and covers educational institutions of Lviv, Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

“We had an idea for an innovative educational project, and we had partners – a team of teachers at UCU. And we managed to attract funding from the government of Taiwan. And this is a powerful investment in Ukrainian school education. Each teacher has already received an educational laptop and a set of robotics, on which they will work and perform tasks. And after completing the training, teachers will receive 16 laptops, sets of robotics, projectors with screens for computer science classrooms in their schools.” – said the coordinator of the “Leave no one behind partnership” project, Ulyana Pak.

We remind you that the candidates for participation in the project were selected by an independent competitive commission. Teams from 143 educational institutions entered the competition. That is, almost 6 schools for one competitive place. In advance, a survey was conducted and the needs of educators were determined. The results of the research were taken into account when forming the course curriculum.

uploads_image_byBIjZ4TQPuNOYfaCh13LW0KUFgGVA_1111.jpg“The survey revealed that there is a great demand for equipment for schools, methodical materials for teaching, as well as the desire of teachers themselves to improve their qualifications. Thanks to this project, teachers will receive such a wide range of educational tools that they will be able to use and test them in their classes for several years,” assured Tetyana Zakharchenko, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, head of the Bachelor’s program “Computer Science” of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU.

Oleg Farenyuk, the head of the “Robotics” educational program at UCU, noted that there will be a lot of theory during the course, but twice as much practice. After all, educators must learn to program various platforms: either the programs themselves or robots. In the future, each teacher with his colleagues and students can choose a platform on which he will work comfortably.

“The ability to program is, in general, the ability to formulate an idea so that it can be understood by a machine. For example, you work with a computer, but if you do not set a task clearly, the computer will not complete it. This skill is best acquired and practiced by programming various systems. And robotics is precisely the best opportunity to see your code live”, – explained the tasks of the training program Oleg Farenyuk.

After the training, the teachers of 24 schools will receive technical equipment for school computer labs, but in general, the project plans to computerize more than a hundred schools, transfer more than 1,000 computers for children’s education.

“All the schools that have applied for participation are already in the project. Some of them have started training today, while others will be involved at the next levels, in other programs. There will be new competitions, new offers. We will not leave anyone behind! Our goal is to interest children in education so that Ukrainian families who have left will willingly return to Ukraine. Education, innovation should become our competitive advantage. It is important that while at UKU, teachers have also learned to create a responsible community, to unite everyone who wants knowledge, to create. Values must be passed on from the teacher to the child. We have a responsibility to teach children to build a new country,” emphasizes the founder of the Democratic Forum NGO.

The project is implemented by the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” with the support of Taiwan and the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

Ukrainian schools of the future with technologies from Taiwan: the winners of the “Leave no one behind” project have been selected

The schools that will receive computer equipment and training in the Ukrainian-Taiwan educational project “Leave no one behind partnership” have been named. The independent competitive commission of teachers of the Ukrainian Catholic University announced the participants of the educational charity project. 143 educational institutions from three regions applied for the competition. Out of all the candidates, the commission chose 40 schools, whose teachers and administration were interviewed.

The competition ended on July 12, 24 participating schools were selected. 14 schools from Lviv, 6 from Ivano-Frankivsk and 4 from Poltava regions won the selection.

10 schools from Lviv, 4 from communities of the region, 1 school from the city of Ivano-Frankivsk and 5 from the region, and two schools each from the city of Poltava and Poltava region.

Two teachers each from 24 schools will study at the Ukrainian Catholic University for several months under specially developed programs. Educators learn about innovative methods of teaching programming, STEM and robotics. According to university teachers, the basis of the program is the study of methods of working with artificial intelligence. Educators will learn how to use AI and transfer these skills to children and other colleagues.

“During the interviews, we tried to find out more information about the interaction between the teacher and the administration of each school, about the needs and dreams of the teachers. We wanted to understand what achievements each educational institution already has. Accordingly, during the implementation of the project, we will help schools become modern hubs of knowledge. They will teach not only students, but also their parents, fellow teachers from surrounding schools,” – said Yaroslav Prytula, the first vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, doctor of philosophy in mathematical analysis.

After the completion of the educational modules, each school will receive a set of modern computer equipment for the computer science room. Namely: 16 laptops, a projector with a screen, a set for robotics. According to the coordinator of the project, Ulyana Pak, the schools that applied, but did not pass the first selection, will be involved in other areas of the project.

“Teachers immediately actively responded to our idea and we received six applications for each competition place. This means that the project meets the needs of education. Already from July 22, the winners of the selection will start studying in the field of IT. This is the first group of teachers who will improve their professional level. But in addition, our project provides training in entrepreneurship and innovation. We will visit communities and work with children and educational institutions on the spot.” – announced Ulyana Pak.

The project is implemented by the public organization “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” with the support of Taiwan and with the assistance of Mykola Kniazhytskyi. Last year, more than 100 computers were given to schools as part of the project. The educational component was introduced recently with the aim of diversifying opportunities for learning.

“The whole project assumes that we will be able to equip more than a hundred schools with modern computer rooms. For this, various programs will be used: for community development, entrepreneurship, education. We are grateful, firstly, to the government of Taiwan, secondly, to the Ukrainian Catholic University, its excellent teachers, to all those who started and supported this program. And, of course, to the teachers who agreed to participate in the project.

Our goal is to expand this pilot project throughout Ukraine. We want Ukrainian children to return to Ukraine, study in Ukrainian schools and be the world’s best specialists in modern technologies,” – emphasized Mykola Kniazhytskyi, the founder of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”.

A good education will be an incentive for the return of Ukrainians: a discussion with educators

The conversation on the topic “Code & Create: education on time” took place on June 17 in the Sheptytskyi UCU Center and brought together about a hundred teachers and school principals. It was about the currently popular IT field. The participants noted that the high competition between specialists in the labor market encourages children to be introduced to technology in schools. At the same time, the educational process is adversely affected by alarms, power outages and other war-related factors.

“Difficulties make all of us, participants in the educational process, even more resilient and resourceful. The best experts in a crisis are those who, even without light, teach children in warehouses, do their job well, – said the Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the head of the bachelor’s program “Computer Science” of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU Tatyana Zakharchenko.

According to her, it is time for everyone to be able to respond to the daily challenges of the era of artificial intelligence. Educators should be trained to work with AI to impart knowledge to students, teach children to think critically and use artificial intelligence to their advantage.

Quality education in Ukrainian schools will contribute to the return of Ukrainian children from abroad, believes the founder of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” Mykola Kniazhytskyi. “The demographic crisis will remain a problem for Ukraine even after our Victory. Therefore, it is very important to develop education in the regions, where it is possible, and then spread the experience throughout the country. Innovative education should begin with supporting teachers and improving their knowledge and skills. Young people must be motivated to study in Ukraine, to be interested,” he emphasized during a discussion with Lviv educators.

A charitable educational project was presented to those present.Leave no one behind partnership“, which is implemented by the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” in cooperation with the Ukrainian Catholic University with the support of Taiwan. Informatics teachers are invited to several months of training in programming. For participating in the project, each school will receive a set of modern equipment for the computer science office. Applications from computer science teachers are accepted from June 17 to July 1 FORM. Participation is free for teachers.

“We talked about the project “Leaving no one behind”. We are implementing this large-scale idea with the support of Taiwan. This is a powerful investment in Ukrainian education. After all, the availability of technology stimulates the development of the school and children. First, computer science teachers will be trained according to the curriculum specially developed for them at UCU. All participants who successfully complete the course will receive sets of equipment for the computer classes of their schools: laptops, projectors, sets for robotics,” said the head of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” Yaryna Yasinevych.

“Class work with robotics requires the teacher to understand electrical phenomena, mechanics, as well as the ability to program,” said the UCU teacher Oleg Farenyuk. So teachers will be taught to program simple robotic devices, moving platforms. Also, UCU teachers will share methodical materials, lectures, and presentations with school teachers, which can be used during computer science lessons with students. Schools whose teachers have completed their training will receive equipment for computer classes.

“A well-equipped office is about equal opportunities. Everyone has the opportunity to see how technology is developing, to try it all in practice. Our goal is to get students interested in STEM subjects as much as possible. And that is why we are interested in participating in the project. We have a team of two excellent and young computer science teachers. They know how to motivate children to study, but they lack a quality educational space that could further interest students in studying computer science and other disciplines,” – Volodymyr Pererva, secondary comprehensive school No. 62 in Lviv.

“Quality education will be an incentive for the return of Ukrainians. Therefore, our goal is to teach children qualitatively and create a modern education for which our children will return,” Mykola Kniazhytskyi concluded the discussion and invited teachers to join innovative projects with the support of international partners.
