It will traditionally be handed over the Stanisław Vincenz Prize “For Humanistic Service and a Contribution to Regional Development”. This year, the awards will be held on December 4, in Lviv, at the Frank House. The organizers are convinced: it is symbolic.

“This year’s awarding of the Stanisław Vincenz Prize in Lviv at the Frank House is not accidental. The first monument to the poet in the world was erected by Stanisław Vincenz in Sloboda-Rungurska in the present-day Ivano-Frankivsk region near his house. And he wrote “I believe in the power of the spirit”. This, indeed, inspires and serves as a special example in difficult times of trials.” – said the initiator of the Via Carpatia Forum – Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

The purpose of the award is to honor work for the benefit of society in the humanitarian field.

This year, the prize will be awarded to a volunteer, paramedic, commander of the Taira Angels unit Yuliia Paievska “Taira”.

As part of the form will also take place presentation of the Ukrainian translation of Stanisław Vincenz’s book “Dialogues with the Soviets”, which the author wrote after the Second World War in exile. He recreated and reflected on his experience in the years 1939-1941 – the arrival of the “Soviets”, his arrest as a representative of the “class enemy”, his release from prison in Stanislavov (modern Ivano-Frankivsk), his escape across the border to Hungary, military wanderings. The book was translated by the Lviv translator Oles Gerasym – it is relevant for our present.

To attend the event, confirm participation using registration form.

The Forum of Central and Eastern Europe “Via Carpatia-2022” is organized by the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum, the NGO “Verkhovyna – Flower of the Carpathians”, the Frank House in Lviv, the Espreso TV channel.

Head of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” Yaryna Yasynevych took part in the round table “Ukraine in search of mature national statehood” in Washington

On October 20, 2022, the XXIII round table “Ukraine in search of mature national statehood” was held at the University Club of Washington, DC. Its title this year is “Formation of a strong but sustainable national identity – modern efforts”.

The meeting was the second in a trilogy of UA Quest roundtables (2021-23), dedicated to the study and assessment of Ukraine’s efforts to establish a distinctive, but large-scale, national identity. The task of the UA Quest roundtables is to look at the present, while examining Ukraine’s attempt to define itself – in the midst of a war that threatens the country’s very existence – through four vectors: a sense of “common history”, a sense of “common culture”, the ability to accept/assimilate the “other”, and a sense of a “common future”.

Head of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum” Yaryna Yasynevych was the speaker of the panel session “Work on the formation of a common “sense of the past and present”.

She talked about the information campaigns that took place in Ukraine and aimed to change the optics of looking at the difficult history of the 20th century.

The panel discussion was moderated by Adrian Karmazyn, former head of the Ukrainian service of the Voice of America, among the speakers were Mykola Posivnych, senior researcher of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Paul Robert Magochy, prof. history of the Department of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Toronto.

Speaking of “Ukraine’s path to mature statehood” its participants emphasized that creating a common view of Ukrainians on their past was a difficult process.

The authorities, which were dependent on Russia, tried to return Ukrainians to the paradigm in which they existed for decades, when they were trained to think that those who oppressed Ukrainians’ desire for freedom were heroes, and fighters for independence, such as soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, were considered criminals.

“The attitude of Ukrainians to the past was formed on the basis of ignorance,” the Ukrainian public figure and communications expert emphasized in her speech Yaryna Yasinevych.

In total, the round table consisted of four panel sessions and three focus sessions. More than two dozen speakers spoke at the meeting.

The forum aims to help clarify a broader issue – the pace of Ukraine’s aspiration to achieve “mature national statehood”.

On June 1, on World Children’s Day, as part of the “Shelter – Friendly Lviv” project, attractions for Lviv schoolchildren and children who left their homes due to the war were held in the city of Leva. More than a hundred boys and girls gathered at the stadium of the 40th school, among whom half are children from the front-line regions who live and study in Lviv during the full-scale invasion.

The event began with a joint performance of the anthem of the Sich riflemen “Oh, in the meadow red viburnum…”. After that, the children took part in mobile games, a flash mob and tug-of-war. A master class on combat hopak was also held for those interested. As a sign of support for our defenders, children drew blue and yellow flags and hearts with chalk.
