The geography and number of participants of the Award increase every year. This year, the Organizing Committee received as many as 12,621 votes from readers of libraries from all over Ukraine, three times more than last year. Voting for the best book for children, teenagers and adults took place in almost 400 libraries across the country. Readers had the opportunity not only to familiarize themselves with and read the best novelties of literature, but also to vote for their favorite.
Three children’s books competed for the victory in the “Literature for Children” nomination:
“When I was a fox” Tanya Postavna (“Vivat” publishing house)
“Miya and the Lunar Eclipse” by Olya Rusin (“Stary Lev Publishing House”)
“The Story Told by Zhuka” by Hrasya Oliyko (“Old Lion Publishing House”)
In the nomination “Literature for teenagers” it was necessary to choose a favorite from among the books:
“Spies from the shelter “Artemis” Natalia Dovgopol (publishing house “Vivat”)
“Sulphur on Gunpowder” Ivan Andrusiak (“Fountain of Tales” publishing house)
“Don’t tell anyone” Sasha Kaminska (Ranok publishing house)
It was difficult to make a choice in the nomination “Literature for adults” from among the books:
“Amadoka” by Sofia Andruhovych (“Stary Lev Publishing House”)
“Planet Wormwood” by Oksana Zabuzhko (“Komara” Publishing House)
poetry book “List of ships” Serhii Zhadan (Meridian Chernovits publishing house)
Readers of the libraries noted that it was not easy to choose among the proposed books, because each literary work was extremely interesting, fascinating and worthy of attention. Teenagers and children chose the best book most actively. It is especially pleasant, as the library staff noted, that contests such as “Espreso. Readers’ Choice” encourage young people to read, develop imagination and empathy. And they also stimulate the desire to think, evaluate the book and justify their opinion when making a choice.
On December 1, the Organizing Committee of the “Espreso. Readers’ Choice” award began counting votes. Hundreds of libraries have already sent and continue to send completed questionnaires and readers’ voting protocols. The winners of the Award will be announced on December 23 at the Award Ceremony live on the Espreso TV channel, on the Espreso TV website and on the FB page.
We will remind you that the “Espreso. Readers’ Choice” book award was founded by the “Espreso” TV channel and supported by the NGO “Demforum”. Its presentation took place in May 2017 as part of the international Book Arsenal festival in Kyiv. The award continues for the fourth year in a row. We will remind that during June 2020, a Long List of 145 books was formed at the First Stage based on the proposals of 37 publishing houses. Further, in the Second stage, during July, 38 experts worked on the evaluation of publications, each in their own separate nomination. According to the calculations of the voting results among the experts, 3 finalist books were determined. These works were used in the third final stage of readers’ voting for the best book in libraries throughout Ukraine.
