On June 21, the second stage of the chess tournament for children who were forced to leave their homes with their families due to the war ended.
After a month of training, 16 young chess players from Donetsk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kramatorsk, Mariupol, Pokrovsk and their peers from Lviv passed the knowledge and skill test.
“Boys and girls showed an appropriate level of play, gained the necessary experience of tournament competitions and chess mastery,” – Vladyslav Baklazhkov, coach of the summer chess school, assistant to the chief judge of the tournament, shared the results of the tournament.
The victory was won by Denys Stuliko, the second – Matvii Hlukhivskyi, the third place was taken by Kostyantyn Tur. All participants received gifts and certificates, and the winners of the competitions were awarded with cups.
The chief judge of the tournament is FIDE Master Volodymyr Medvedyk.
After the intellectual struggle, all participants were treated to goodies. The time spent together contributes to the quick adaptation of children to a new environment, and also helps to find new friends.
The chess school is open until August 15, so children from internally displaced families who have not yet registered can join. Lessons take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in the city youth center Lviv Open Lab. The chess school functions within the project “Shelter – Friendly Lviv”, which is implemented by the NGO “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum”, with the support of Stiftung Schüler Helfen Leben.
