Via Carpatia forum

The 3rd International Forum of Central and Eastern Europe, Via Carpatia 2020: Places of Ukrainian Strength, took place in Lviv on 26–27 September. It featured panel discussions broadcast live on Espreso TV and a series of events at various locations around the city.

The Via Carpatia Forum moved to Lviv this year in response to the demands of these challenging times.

The mission of Via Carpatia: Places of Ukrainian Strength is to preserve traditions and create new meanings rooted in them, foster national revival and modern technological development, and seek out the places, ideas and spaces that give us strength.

We aim to highlight several key themes that are crucial to the advancement of culture and the development of civil society. These priorities were reflected in the discussions held live by artists, practitioners and intellectuals:
● Framework. Institutions to support national revival
● Engine. How technology affects culture. Digital services, royalties and direct access to listeners
● Magnet. Ukraine’s places of strength
● What will give us strength?

Together with our partners, we also held a series of in-person events in Lviv, observing all public health requirements. In particular, together with PEN Ukraine, we organised the poetry readings we had all missed so much. And, of course, we presented the Stanisław Vincenz Prize for Humanistic Service and a Contribution to Regional Development.

Organisers: the All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum, the Ukrainian Book Institute, PEN Ukraine and Espreso. With support from the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration and the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council.
